Semiconductor Industry Chain Positioning

 

As an IC design company in the upstream segment of the semiconductor supply chain, Nuvoton is directly susceptible to fluctuations in market demand. It is essential to maintain flexibile, advanced, and integrated approach to technological research. From a supply chain perspective, Nuvoton's products function as the control and computational nucleus of end products, enabling downstream customers to develop applications in microcontrollers, voice recognition, cloud security, battery monitoring, imaging sensors, and semiconductor components. These related products hold dominant positions within the industrial, automotive, communication, consumer electronics, and computing markets, where Nuvoton has established a robust presence over the years. In response to organizational adjustments and operational structural changes, Nuvoton Japan has concurrently modified its business group nomenclature to enhance the alignment of organizational operations and strategic direction (please refer to the value chain relationship diagram). Moreover, Nuvoton is one of the few IC design companies in Taiwan possessing wafer fabrication capabilities. The Company operates a 6-inch wafer fabrication plant, which manufactures its own IC products while providing specialized wafer foundry services. Nuvoton has also established long-term, stable partnerships with upstream material and equipment suppliers.

In 2025, Nuvoton continued to expand its research and development capabilities, with total R&D expenditures reaching NT$9.05 billion. With 2,106 researchers engaged in product design, technology development, testing, and enhancing production efficiency, his significant investment underscore Nuvoton's unwavering commitment to product and technological innovation.

Nuvoton Japan Strengthens Competitive Advantage in the Automotive Market

 

Electric vehicles are the cornerstone of green energy transition. Nuvoton Japan has shown remarkable performance in automotive-related components, such as MCU, BMIC, and HMI-IC. Following the development of the third-generation electric vehicle BMIC in 2023, the Company has launch of its fourth-generation product line, with some variants already entering mass production. Primarily targeted at automotive and industrial control applications, these components were successfully integrated into the next-generation electric vehicle platforms of Japanese customers in 2025, with adoption anticipated in upcoming vehicle models.

In 2025, the Company launched the fourth-generation "Gerda™" automotive human-machine interaction display IC series, which encompasses three models (Gerda-4M / Gerda-4L / Gerda-4C):

  • This series integrates image processing technology, safety features, and display security capabilities, making it suitable for various human-machine interaction devices.
  • By creating high-definition in-car display systems—such as electronic rearview mirrors, Augmented Reality Head-Up Displays (AR-HUD), and instrument panels—these products help enhance driving comfort and reduce fatigue, thereby ensuring a safer driving experiences.
Battery management chip(BMIC)

In February 2025, Nuvoton launched the new industrial 17-core BM-IC "KA49701A" and "KA49702A" for 48V batteries:

  • By integrating fault diagnosis functions and fail-safe capabilities within the BM-IC, the product enhances battery management systems safety while concurrently reducing system costs.
  • The voltage measurement accuracy is +/-2.9 mV, the product minimizes current consumption during operation to achieve longer battery runtime.
Laser

Nuvoton introduced the KLC330FL01WW, a high-power ultraviolet laser diode (wavelength 379 nm, optical output power of 1.0 W):

  • Featuring an exclusive device structure and advanced thermal management packaging technology, this product successfully combines a short wavelength with high output power and an extended operational lifetime.
     

The KLC435FS01WW is characterized as a compact high-power violet laser diode (wavelength 402 nm, optical output power of 1.7 W):

  • Utilizing an industry-leading TO-56 CAN packaging design, the product ensures superior optical output power compared to other solutions.
  • The design facilitates the development of space-efficient and durable optical systems, suitable for a wide range of optical applications.
