In response to World Rivers Day, the Hsinchu Toucian River Cleanup Event. | News
There is only one Earth, and we share this land.
Nuvoton Technology values the protection of water resources and responds to Taiwan River Day on September 25th, World Rivers Day in September 2024, and SDGs environmental sustainability education.
We participated in the Hsinchu Toucian River cleanup event co-organized by the Water Resources Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Hsinchu County Government Education Bureau. A total of 165 people joined the river waste cleanup, removing 89 kilograms of waste.
This event was incorporated into the ICC International Coastal Cleanup initiative. Besides gaining knowledge about environmental sustainability, participants were able to understand the composition and sources of river waste through registration records.
Approximately 80% of river waste is naturally occurring (such as dead wood, branches, leaves, animal carcasses, etc.), which becomes part of the ecosystem after decomposition by time and microorganisms. Human-generated waste, such as takeaway drink cups, food packaging bags, lighters, disposable tableware, and the most common cigarette butts, remains in place for a long time.
During the registration process, participants also learned that waste has been polluted and cannot be recycled but must be incinerated.
The statistics of this waste category will be disclosed by the county government on a public information platform in the future, striving to raise residents' awareness of water and soil conservation.
To make our home cleaner, let us continue to take action together and protect the Earth.
