Participation in Natural Carbon Sequestration and Biodiversity Projects

FANCA invited experts and scholars in related fields to formulate the "Great Purple Emperor Endangered Species Conservation Action Plan," planning conservation action strategies from various aspects. They launched the "Butterfly Revival – Protecting the Habitat of the Great Purple Emperor" ESG conservation project through the "Carbon Sink and Biodiversity ESG Project Matching Platform" initiated by the Hsinchu Branch, matching the Taiwan Butterfly Conservation Society, which has been conducting population monitoring and habitat surveys in the Bairan Tribe for a long time. With the Bairan Tribe in Wufeng Township as the core, and with the cooperation of relevant scholars, they used drone aerial photography technology to establish data on the distribution of the Chinese Hackberry. At the same time, they promoted the empowerment of tribal residents to participate in the patrol and trait investigation of the Chinese Hackberry, hoping to make local residents participate and become key forces in ecological protection, and gradually expand to environmental education and community conservation actions. This project resonated with Nuvoton, and everyone worked together to make the Bairan Tribe and Wufeng Mountain Area a demonstration field and benchmark for the sustainable conservation of the Great Purple Emperor.

Sharing of Rare Butterflies Conservation Work

In the lecture, Honorary Chairman Jung-hua, Chang, of the Butterfly Conservation Society of Taiwan led everyone to understand rare butterflies and introduced the evolution, life history, and conservation crisis of butterflies, with a special focus on the research of the Great Purple Emperor in the Hsinchu indigenous area. He mentioned the challenges faced by volunteer partners during the survey process, such as searching for the Chinese Hackberry in cold and steep mountainous areas, flipping through fallen leaves to find overwintering larvae, and conducting measurements and data collection. These data became important bases for subsequent habitat conservation and educational promotion, allowing participants to deeply understand the hardships and value of conservation work. The participation of two tribal representatives demonstrated the local attention to butterfly conservation and laid the foundation for future tribal conservation empowerment and partnership.
